About Us

  • The Life Without School Blog is an on-line publication and blogging community. We homeschool. We unschool. We live our lives without school. For some, life without school begins as a conscientious choice that is whole-heartedly embraced. For others, it begins as a quest for second chances and new opportunity.... Read more about us.

About Our Blogs

  • We support life without school, diversity of perspective, choice, the family and the child. No one blog, not even this LWOS blog, can possibly represent the opinions and lives of all who live life without school. Each blog does, however, in some small way represent one life, one family, once voice, one lifestyle out of many who choose to live life without school.

On Questions

  • The simplest questions are the most profound. Where were you born? Where is your home? Where are you going? What are you doing? Think about these once in awhile, and watch your answers change. -Richard Bach

Questions for Us

  • What are ways you prepare your children to survive in our society economically? How are you sure your children are learning enough; what about holes in your child's education? Read more Questions for Us.

On Perspectives

  • A perspective does not tell me what is right for you. A persective shares a view into what is possibly right for me. No one perspective should hold a human being, especially a child, prisoner to its expectations.

Well, if you have a Tivo, and the show comes on before you get up, you can still record the new shows. That's the entire point of Tivo!

Just go and look up The Magic School Bus on the Programs to Record menu (I think that's what it's called) and you should be all set. We still get it here -- it's on in the afternoon -- and the Tivo grabs the show for us every day.

Thank you, Lori. You are right. I feared them not being aired again on TV when I might need them (but I can't do anything about that), and I didn't want to have to fork out money to pay for the them. My goal was to record them from the Tivo. So they sat and took up space that we could use. I was not ready to move on with the next phase of our journey. My kids could care less about me re-recording or even seeing those shows again. It was all about silly, stuck (dense;-D) me, it seems. I referred to a Magic School Bus show on gravity just yesterday when a conversation went the way of gravity, and the response was like "yeah, yeah...now let's move on";-)to stuff like this: Steve Spangler on Gravity: http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiments/search_experiment.php?search=gravity&q=gravity&rdSearchType=experiment

I hear you, Robin. We've kept a few shows on the Tivo way past their usefulness for the same reason. 8-)

(Once a hoarder, always a hoarder, I guess, no matter the medium!)

Our library stocks some of the Magic School Bus shows. You could see if yours carries some, and then maybe between Netflix and the library you can access a good sampling?

You are so right.:-) The show is out there! Between the library, Netflix and Tivo.... good point. Now that I've let them go, I don't feel the same need to hold onto them, although for some strange reason it's good to know they are accessible. Sometimes (irrationally even) some of us hold onto things that no longer serve us, even though they did so well in the past. Fear of moving forward (and letting go)into new and "scary" adventures can sometimes be the reason behind that. Fear that letting go is forever, even... and sometimes it is and life moves on. The Magic School Bus may not so much be the show and the role that it played in our lives (and it was a huge part of our lives for a while) as it could be the sense of adventure and the spirit of moving forward with life into new adventures that we carry with us.

Editor's Corner

  • It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power. ~Alan Cohen
